Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
The Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching within immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC have about 40 research groups and our key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, national and international collaborations. Our laboratory is located at the Science for Life Laboratory in the Karolinska Institute campus in Solna. SciLifeLab is equiped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and core facilities, and is home to one of the largest sequencing cluster in Europe. Read more about Scilife lab here.
Our group combines experimental and computational work and aims to develop and apply novel proteomics and chromatin biology methods to address fundamental biological questions with medical implications. We are especially interested in how metabolism controls gene Piazza Lab at SciLifeLab Stockholm). As a research assistant in our group you will have the opportunity to work in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment and combine the development of state-of-the art genome-wide approaches with the molecular dissection of fundamental biological problems.
Your mission
As a research assistant in our lab you will use quantitative proteomics, genomics and structural mass spectrometry to uncover how metabolic enzymes and small molecules interact with chromatin and transcriptional machinery in stem cells and leukemia models. You will also investigate how perturbations in nuclear metabolism influence protein structure, phase separation, and cellular state transitions.
Your project will benefit from integration with single-cell and low-input proteomics workflows, and collaboration with experts in chromatin biology, metabolism, and translational research. As a research assistant you will participate in the general duties of the team and work together with scientists of very diverse backgrounds in a highly interdisciplinary and international environment. Working language is English.
Your profile
Applicants to this position should have a master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics or similar field. You who apply should either have an experimental or a bioinformatic profile.
We’re looking for a motivated, creative, and curious person with a background in biochemistry, cell biology, proteomics, or a related field. Prior experience with mass spectrometry, chromatin, or metabolism is a plus—but not required. A strong interest in interdisciplinary research and systems-level thinking is essential.
Requirements for the position:
- A strong interest in interdisciplinary technology development, and novel and creative thinking abilities.
- Experience interpreting biological data and experimentally testing their hypothesis.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in teams.
- For experimental profile: Experience with molecular biology methods and NGS library construction.
- For computational profile: Experience with large-scale analyses and bioinformatics (NGS, Python, batch and/or R scripting languages).
Meritorious for the position:
- Experience with CRISPR based approaches and epigenetics.
- Experience in NGS data analysis
- Some experience with mass spectrometry sample preparation and data analysis
- Experience in CRISPR based approaches and epigenetics, chemical biology.
