We’re looking for a passionate and strategic Design Manager to lead design across our web and print-based AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) products. In this role, you’ll guide a multidisciplinary team of product and graphic designers, collaborating closely with product, engineering, research, and AAC experts. Your leadership will shape how individuals with complex communication needs interact with tactile and digital tools—driven by empathy, accessibility, and inclusive design.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of product and graphic designers, fostering growth, collaboration, and craft excellence.
- Champion user-centered and inclusive design practices across both print-based products (e.g., symbol books, communication boards) and digital platforms.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to define and execute the design vision and strategy.
- Act as a bridge between physical and digital design thinking, ensuring a cohesive experience across products.
- Facilitate team rituals, design reviews, and cross-functional critiques that elevate quality and creativity.
- Advocate for accessibility and user research, ensuring our tools serve people with communication challenges, caregivers, and educators.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and team health initiatives to build a diverse and resilient design culture.
- Own and improve design processes, documentation, and workflows to help the team scale and deliver impact efficiently. Perform various other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in product, UX, or graphic design, with a strong portfolio spanning both digital tools and tactile/print-based design.
- 2+ years of experience managing designers, with a proven track record of growing individuals and teams.
- Ability to lead through ambiguity, navigate complex requirements, and balance the needs of diverse users and stakeholders.
- Familiarity or experience in AAC, assistive technology, education, or healthcare spaces.
