Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?
Positron emission tomography (PET) is an imaging technique used to examine the function of the brain in healthy subjects and patients with neuropsychiatric conditions. We are currently seeking an analytical chemist for the Radiopharmacy Core Facility (RCF) at Karolinska Institutet (KI), which is responsible for the production of radiotracer for both preclinical and clinical PET studies. In close collaboration with Andrea Varrone’s research group, you will be part of one of the world’s leading PET operations.
Your mission
PET is a non-invasive molecular imaging technique increasingly used in biomedical research, medical diagnostics, and drug development. A fundamental pre-requisite for PET is the radioactive tracer molecule used in the PET measurement, which can be designed with exquisite specificity to open up opportunities for research into completely new aspects of human physiology in vivo. One of the most important applications of PET is to study various diseases in psychiatry and neurology and to optimize treatments using both new and established drugs in collaboration with pharma industry. There is a large unmet need for new PET tracer molecules and your contributions are vital to assist the PET operations at Karolinska Institutet in their development.
As an analytical chemist, you will primarily analyze PET tracers before they are used in various research projects. The research projects include both animal experimental models and human studies. You will use analytical methods such as HPLC, GC, Endosafe, etc. You will work in a GMP lab and work with GMP documentation according to an established quality system. In addition, you will be directly involved in validations of new PET tracers through the development of new analysis methods and writing new documentation in accordance with GMP requirements.
Your profile
We are looking for a skilled and motivated analytical chemist with a university degree or equivalent qualifications as assessed by the employer. Experience in working and developing analytical methods with HPLC is a requirement. Experience in HPLC analysis of PET tracers labeled with carbon-11 and fluorine-18 in accordance with GMP regulations is meritorious, as is solid knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques, such as HPLC, GC and Endosafe. The work is carried out in close collaboration with professionals from multiple areas of expertise and organisations. The ability to collaborate and coordinate activities is therefore of great importance. Finally, good proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is required.
