Umeå School of Architecture is hiring two teaching assistants within research for the Fall semester of 2025 and Spring semester of 2026. The positions are 20% part-time with the start date of 13 October 2025, or as agreed. The application deadline is 15 September, 2025.
Job description
As teaching assistant, you will assist UMA researchers in the project “Towards sustainable biobased circularity in digitalized building: Pilot scale 3D printing upcycled biomass in cement.” The project is led by Chalmers University of Technology and the team is formed by Umeå School of Architecture, Konkretprint AB, and Greenwave AB. The research project aims to validate pilot-scale solutions for biomass application in 3D printing with concrete, and UMA will contribute by exploring new building design with biomass in the 3D printing process.
Your primary tasks include:
- 3D modelling using Rhinoceros 3D and Grasshopper software
- 3D printing of prototypes with WASP 3D printer and Prusa 3D printer
- Creation of illustrations and graphics with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, or similar software
- Editing of images with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, or similar software
- Creating and editing of short videos with Adobe Premiere, or similar software
Other tasks or duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
To be eligible for the position you must:
- Be enrolled in years 4 or 5 of the Architecture Programme, or in the Master's Programme in Architecture and Urban Design at the Umeå School of Architecture
- Have good knowledge in architectural visual representation and modelling in both 2D and 3D
- Have good knowledge in Grasshopper for Rhinoceros 3D.
Previous experience with 3D printing and/or experience of working with REVIT are considered an advantage.
As a person, you are creative, solution-oriented, and goal-driven. You work well in a group, while also demonstrating the ability to take initiative and work independently toward set goals. Your approach is structured and methodical, and you bring a keen attention to detail to everything that you do.

Terms of employment
The position is part time, 20% of full-time with a start date on 13 October 2025, or as agreed. Working hours are flexible and will be agreed upon in with the research project lead based on the student’s schedule.

Umeå School of Architecture, Umeå University (UMA) was established in 2009 and is now located in beautiful and expedient premises at Umeå University Arts Campus. The school has been gradually built up as an international laboratory for experimental architecture, in which both education and research are carried out.
