R&D Technician

The R&D Technologist, working under the supervision of the CI&TS Manager/Product Specialists, assists in the development of new powder cocoa-based beverage products that meet both country-specific requirements and customer specifications. Key responsibilities of this role include: evaluating the physical and chemical parameters of products, leading sensory analysis, supporting factory trials, and production scale-up. The Technologist also supports internally driven projects, under the guidance of R&D PE Specialists, by completing project database data, writing formulas, and leading sample sending. To be successful in this role, the Technologist must be capable of following instructions, maintaining records for the reproduction of experimental conditions, and understanding the food manufacturing processes and the effects of various formulations and physical parameters on processing.
Responsibilities:
- Daily: Prepare powder beverage samples in the laboratory in a timely manner and to meet project specifications. Send these samples to the customer with the correct specification and accompanying shipment documentation.
- Daily: Compile and analyze the results obtained in the production of the samples
- On request: Support factory trials and assist on the evaluation of the physical characteristics of the samples produced during scaling up.
- Daily: Assist Project Leads in the development of new formulations, management of existing recipes, and management of customer projects.
- Daily: Use the data collection system to enter information related to the projects and samples produced.
- Daily: Maintains full understanding of R&D processes, tools and databases.
- Weekly: Manage the inventory of raw materials in the R&D Department.
- On requests: Participate actively in the different projects with the R&D Team.
- Daily: Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. Ensure proper care and maintenance of the lab equipment.
- Daily: Work within all regulatory requirements.
- On request: Perform all other lab related duties as requested.
- Regularly communicate findings and project progress to the Project Lead and/or cross-functional teams
- Adhere to safety protocols and actively contribute to a safe laboratory environment
- Contribute ideas for process improvements, innovation, and optimization of formulation
- Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in a technical field (Biology, Chemistry, Food Science)-Food Science degree preferred
- Fluent English (speaking, writing and reading). Swedish is preferred
- Computer Skills: Proficient use of Microsoft tools (Word, Excel and PowerPoint). SAP and Salesforce knowledge is a plus.
- Industry knowledge: Knowledge of, or interest in baking, frozen, and confectionery applications. Relevant experience in the food industry is an asset; knowledge of food safety, hygiene and worker safety.
- Personal attributes: Be resolute, capable of working under pressure and managing many tasks simultaneously;
- Experience: Experience in a product development lab, with a pilot plant, and food quality assurance is a plus
- Analytical abilities: Strong technical and analytical skill set.
