This Position reports to:
Sr Manager/Executive Mgmt
In this role, you will develop technology, software, product, and solution using advanced technical skills, with a focus on software architecture within the Operations domain for core process control. You will serve as the primary point of contact within Research and Development (R&D) for product or technology-specific design in the PCP Operations stream. You will also showcase your skills by supporting strategic corporate technology management and future product/software/solution architecture. Typical software systems you will work with include HMIs, Historians and Batch systems, and similar technologies.

This role supports the global Process Automation business within the Process Control Platform Division, including active contributions to current-generation control system platforms.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Investing efforts into expanding competence portfolio beyond the area of specialization, assimilating developments in complementary technologies, tools, and methodologies, and integrating learnings into daily activities.
- Managing major technology/engineering projects/product platforms that are essential to the organization's operations.
- Anticipating and strategically offering solutions to address potential quality issues in R&D projects.
- Monitoring and working to secure and develop Intellectual Property (IP) within and beyond your area of expertise/projects, based on a good understanding of IP strategies and competitors’ patents in relevant ABB domains.
- Align with system architects on the Automation Vision and help define the long-term strategy for the Distributed Control System (DCS) of the future, ensuring consistency with business goals.
- Design and support current-generation Operations platforms, such as Symphony Plus, System 800xA, Freelance, and others—focusing on their evolution toward the Automation Vision.
- Own and manage the architectural backlog, including evaluating and finalizing platform-related designs, and prioritizing based on business value, customer needs, and technical feasibility.
- Collaborate with Product Management to negotiate requirements and balance short- and long-term goals to ensure alignment with the future vision of our control systems.
- Leading a team of Operations platform architects, communicating system architecture decisions to the team and coordinating architecture activities amongst the team members.
Qualifications for the role
- Advanced knowledge of software architecture styles, including microservices, micro frontends, REST, etc. Demonstrated experience in designing and developing scalable, asynchronous, microservices-based systems using modern design patterns.
- 10–15 years of experience in software development, with extensive proficiency in .NET Core, ASP.NET, Web API, understanding of web technologies and practical experience with OPC UA technology. Experience with Angular or React, including components, directives, services, and routing.
- In-depth understanding of Linux internals, with practical experience in system-level operations and performance optimization.
- Proficiency in container technologies such as Docker and Podman, including knowledge of container security best practices.
- Familiarity with container orchestration patterns, cluster lifecycle management, and multi-cluster Kubernetes solutions.
- Ability to design and implement complex, secure, and scalable platform applications for Operations runtime systems.
- Experience mentoring team members, along with proficient documentation and communication skills, especially in explaining complex technical concepts.
- Proficient awareness of technical risk management, IP protection, and innovative culture development.
- Prior experience or domain knowledge in Industrial Automation, particularly with ABB DCS systems.
