The Mining Technology department supports the mining operations within Boliden with anything from operational problem solving to engineering and design of new areas in the existing mines. Together with the Business Development department, we perform feasibility studies for new and expansion of existing deposit. At the Technology department we work in close co-operation with our mining operations, in cross-functional teams and with strong personal commitment.
Your Opportunity
We are seeking a committed and experienced Chief Rock Mechanics Engineer to lead our Rock Mechanics Engineering Group within the Mining Technology Department. This department provides essential engineering support for all of Boliden Mines’ open pit and underground operations.
As Chief of Rock Mechanics, you will be part of the Mining Technology department’s management team, which also includes key sections such as Maintenance Enigneering, Mine Planning, and Production Technology.
The position reports to the Department Manager of Mining Technology and is located at the Boliden Office. It carries leadership responsibility for a team of nine rock mechanical engineers, located both at the office and across various mining sites in Sweden. Travel is included.
What You Will Do
Key responsibilities are:
Lead the Rock Mechanics section and manage a team of engineers and specialists to support mining operations
Ensure compliance with design criteria and support production and planning teams
Coordinate with external consultants, suppliers and academia/universities
Drive continuous improvement of rock mechanic processes and risk management
Represent the Rock Mechanics discipline in cross-functional projects and meetings
Contribute to strategic planning for all Boliden Mines and the Mining Technology Department
What You Bring

We believe you have/are:
A MSc in Mining Engineering, Rock Mechanic Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on rock mechanics
Extensive hands-on experience in geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics, including operational support, project involvement, and strategic development with the ability to guide in the analysis and design of mining methods and ground support
Proficiency in geotechnical and mining software including the ability to model, analyze, and interpret complex rock mass behavior using industry-standard tools to support design and decision-making in both operational and project contexts
Proven leadership and team development skills with a track record of guiding teams, fostering professional growth and driving collaboration across departments to achieve strategic and technical goals
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills using data and critical thinking to make informed decisions
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment as well as independently where collaboration skills, integrity, and ability to build effective relationships are greatly valued
Excellent communication skills in English; Swedish is a merit or willingness to learn and additionally you communicate in a manner that is clear and comprehensible to relevant stakeholders
A valid EU Category B driving license
