Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre
We are seeking a highly motivated researcher to conduct research in modelling and monitoring forest growth.
About the position
The projects focus on developing models for forest types and tree species, in heterogenous forest and monocultures. The research approach make use of data from existing experiments, remote sensing and drone monitoring. In many cases the delivered models are supposed to feed into applied decision support systems, such as Heureka.
The candidate will belong to the silviculture unit at the department and work in a silviculture team with focus on forest management for multiuse purposes, addressing issues on climate change adaptation and high-versus low intensity forestry. We use empirical and process based modelling, with input data from the National Forest Inventory and long-term experiments.
Your profile
The candidate must have a PhD degree in silviculture and/or forest management or a very similar subject. The candidate must have proven experience in data analysis and modelling of tree and stand data, described in scientific publications and/or thesis.
Extra merits are previous experience of in-field practical knowledge on drone and remote sensing techniques and experience of the tree species in northern Europe. The department sees a big value in candidates that are interested in teaching and supervision of undergraduate students.
About us
SLU is one of the world’s highest ranked universities in several subject areas and is ranked #1 in forestry (CWUR). At our centre we carry out research, teaching and dissemination of scientific findings with direct application to the sustainable management of forests. We have a multidisciplinary profile, with global relevance and specialized expertise on forests and forestry as complex socio-ecological systems. We closely collaborate with multiple stakeholders and conduct applied research in silviculture, forest ecology, pathology, policy and planning. We teach bachelor, Masters and PhD level courses addressing all of these subject areas.
