Are you an accomplished UX design leader with a passion for transforming complex ecosystems into seamless, human-centered experiences? We are looking for a Principal UX Designer to step into a pivotal role within SOST, one of our Services product teams – a mission-critical digital service application supporting subscriptions within Volvo dealers worldwide.
This is not just about crafting interfaces; it is about raising the level of design maturity in a high-impact product space, influencing strategic decisions, and ensuring UX is embedded into the way we work. You will bring clarity where there is complexity, build trust with stakeholders, and champion user-centricity across teams and leadership.
You thrive on working across different layers: shaping vision and strategy with business leaders, collaborating closely with developers and product owners, and ensuring that every implementation reflects intentional, high-quality design. This is a role for someone ready to lead by design – driving both immediate outcomes and long-term organizational change.
Responsibilities
- Strategic leadership: Drive the UX vision for SOST, aligning design decisions with business goals and Volvo’s digital service strategy.
- Champion user-centricity: Ensure design is based on real user insights, balancing pragmatic constraints with long-term usability and service quality.
- Stakeholder management: Partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and senior stakeholders to shape requirements, challenge assumptions, and co-create meaningful outcomes.
- Design excellence: Oversee the end-to-end design process, from research and concept to delivery, ensuring high-quality implementation and adherence to design systems, accessibility, and brand standards.
- Process improvement: Establish and embed ways of working that enable UX to flourish in the product team, clarifying roles, responsibilities, and workflows.
- Execution where needed: Balance strategic influence with hands-on design delivery – ensuring urgent backlog needs are met without losing sight of long-term transformation.
- Cross-chapter collaboration: Actively participate in the Volvo UX Design Chapter, sharing knowledge and helping shape the evolution of UX across the Volvo Group.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience in UX design, with a strong track record in large, complex organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead design strategically, not only executing but shaping product direction.
- Proven stakeholder management skills – able to influence at senior levels and facilitate alignment between business, product, and technology.
- Experience balancing hands-on design delivery with process improvement, research and design creation.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating impactful design solutions across ecosystems and enterprise contexts.
- Excellent communication skills, able to articulate design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mastery of design tools such as Figma, or equivalent, combined with experience in design systems and accessibility standards.
- Previous experience in B2B, enterprise, or mission-critical applications is a strong plus.
