Your Role
We are looking for a Head of Mechanical & Structural Engineering department to join ERIEYE and Sensors division within Business Unit Airborne Early Warning, Business Unit AEW.
The newly formed Mechanical & Structural Engineering department will have a combined product and design responsibility for the GlobalEye DOU (Dorsal Unit) structure with expertise within Computer-Aided Engineering at Saab Surveillance in Gothenburg with focus on mechanical design, structural analysis, thermal/fluid simulations as well as formless materials (organic and inorganic, e.g. composites).
The department responsibilities are:
Design responsibility of GlobalEye DOU STR (structural dorsal unit)
Mechanical engineering for airborne design
Being the experts and support BA Surveillance Gothenburg within product reliability and endurance design/analysis with respect to materials and environmental requirements as well as material design authority
Provide expert drive and support to development of surveillance systems for airborne, sea and land applications
Perform analyses and present actions necessary for handling repairs and production issues
Perform R&D work within electronics cooling technology and product reliability/ predictive maintenance through our technical specialists
Sustain and maintain of DOU STR
As Head of Mechanical & Structural Engineering department, you will;
Lead and coach an organization of 90+ engineers and a management team of 6 managers
Be responsible for securing design solutions to enable lead times and capacity on DOU according to business needs.
Define strategies, budget and working method for the organization
Develop and grow your groups’ future capabilities through competence development, recruitment, cooperation, sourcing and improved ways-of-working.
Promote creativity, new ideas, business thinking and team spirit
Recruit staff/consultants and develop teams with the right skills and working methods
Be responsible for technical reports that may have great impact on delivery and customer
Support programs and product management in new campaigns as well as development of road maps
Provide conditions for technical studies and technical/process improvement work
Be an active part of the ERIEYE and Sensor Leadership Team in terms of strategy, roadmaps etc
You will also contribute to the overall development of BU AEW as well as the Surveillance design and implementation organizations. In this role you will have the opportunity to set the detailed organization and recruit managers in cooperation with Head of ERIEYE and Sensors.
Cooperation with technical product management as well as external suppliers and other organisations within Saab is also part of the daily work. This position offers great opportunities to travel nationally and/or internationally for both team work with colleagues, customer interactions and conferences.

We also assume you have:
Appropriate professional or postgraduate qualification in technical discipline (e.g., M.Sc. in Engineering Physics, Applied Mechanics or Mechanical Engineering)
A current position as leader of leaders or vast experience as first line manager in this technical area and ready for next step
Skills to combine strategic thinking with operational actions
Strong business understanding and customer focus
Strong drive, creativity and ability to generate energy
The ability to create good conditions for structure
Experience, understanding and ability to work in an international environment
This position requires that you pass a security vetting based on the current regulations regarding security protection. For positions requiring security clearance additional obligations on citizenship may apply.
