Description of the workplace
The research group includes oncologists, pathologists, and basic scientists. After more than a decade of translational studies and large-scale analyses of retrospectively collected tumor material, the current focus is on validating and implementing key findings in clinical settings through prospective clinical studies. The research group is currently based in the Kamprad Building at Skåne University Hospital but will relocate to BMC in the autumn.

We are now seeking a Research Associate for a full-time, fixed-term position from September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026.

Duties and areas of responsibility

A key research focus is tumor development and mechanisms of treatment resistance. This project includes studies of dynamic biomarker monitoring during treatment ("on-treatment"), where tumor tissue analysis is complemented and correlated with circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), as well as immune cell composition in serial blood samples collected during therapy. The work is carried out in close collaboration with Professor Göran Jönsson, and a substantial part of the analyses will take place in his laboratory at Medicon Village.

The position involves, among other tasks:

  • Analysis of tumor tissue using multiplex immunofluorescence and spatial transcriptomics, with a special focus on various types of nerves and nerve fibers in the tumor microenvironment
  • Analysis of relevant circulating proteins using proximity extension assay (PEA)
  • Assistance with sample handling during autopsies
  • Compilation, visualization, and correlation analysis of data, as well as statistical analyses using R

Qualifications
Requirements for the position:

  • PhD in tumor immunology
  • Extensive experience in immunohistochemical evaluation and multiplex immunofluorescence on tumor tissue
  • Extensive experience with spatial proteomics analysis of tumor tissue
  • Programming skills in R
  • Documented knowledge in interpreting data from clinical studies
  • Strong ability to work independently
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Documented proficiency in scientific English

Other
The position is a special fixed-term employment (SÄVA) at 100 % for one year.
Preferred start date is September 1, 2025, or as agreed.
