The Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics conducts research in epidemiology and biostatistics across a broad range of areas within biomedical science. The department is among the largest of its type in Europe and has especially strong research profiles in psychiatric, cancer, reproductive, pediatric, pharmaco, genetic, and geriatric epidemiology, eating disorders, precision medicine, and biostatistics.
Part of the success of our department is due to our collaborative spirit where one factor is that researchers at the Department share and co-finance common resources (e.g., IT and an applied biostatistics group). In the research group “Cancer epidemiology and applied biostatistics” we focus on risk factors and prognostic factors of cancer in the population-based setting to understand underlying mechanisms of cancer occurrence and survival. Our three main research themes are i) reproductive factors and cancer, ii) socioeconomic inequalities in cancer, and iii) descriptive cancer trends in the Nordic countries. Your mission
For this job, you will collaborate with researchers at MEB, Karolinska Institutet, to perform systematic literature searches, data management and statistical analysis, as well as contribute to research articles. Your primary task will be to 1) collect the relevant scientific literature on reproductive factors and cancer, and 2) analyze register data and summarize results. You will also contribute to the work around an ethical application and register data application from Swedish authorities for a research project relating to cancer and reproduction, which may also involve handling information in Swedish.

Your profile
You should have a strong interest in cancer epidemiology and research, and a minimum of master’s degree in biomedical or public health sciences. The applicant should have excellent theoretical knowledge of epidemiology. Previous research experience (for example from a master thesis) of population-based register data, cancer epidemiology and statistical analyses with regression models is a merit. Programming skills in Stata is a requirement. Documented good data cleaning and management skills and organizational skills are a merit. Experience from performing literature searching and writing results reports is also a merit.
The applicant should be reliable, meticulous and able to work effectively in a team as well as independently. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. Skills in oral and written Swedish is a merit.
