Want to be part of transforming road freight – for good? Einride is showing the world a new way to move, based on the latest digital, electric and autonomous technologies. Through freight capacity as a service, we enable businesses around the world to accelerate towards their sustainability goals.
Founded in 2016, Einride became the first company in the world to deploy a cab-less autonomous electric vehicle on a public road (Sweden, 2019). In 2022, we were the first to successfully operate such a vehicle on a US public road. Today our award-winning technology has been launched across 8 countries (and counting). Our clients are some of the world’s biggest shippers, including Fortune 500 companies. We are also operating Sweden’s largest truck dedicated public charging network and counting.
About the role
As the technical authority and system architect for propulsion and energy, you’ll own the e-powertrain and energy stack - electric motor(s), inverter, gearbox, high-voltage battery and battery management system, charging interfaces, and thermal management. You’ll define the system architecture, lead Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA/FMEA), and drive system integration across software, hardware, chassis/actuation, safety, and suppliers to maximize range, charging performance, and fleet uptime. In practice, that means you will:
- Own the system architecture across platforms: requirements flow-down, interface control, redundancy and diagnostics concepts, and compliance strategy.
- Lead DFMEA/FMEA for propulsion, battery/battery management system, charging, and thermal; ensure mitigation actions are owned and closed with suppliers and internal teams.
- Drive system integration end-to-end: manage software/hardware drop cadence
- Calculate, recommend, and select battery capacity and power capability (including charge/discharge rates), motor and inverter power and torque, and gearbox ratios per use case, vehicle form factor, and platform.
- Lead supplier technical dialogues and roadmaps; run design and validation reviews, change control, and negotiations.
- Scan and evaluate state-of-the-art technologies (cells, packs, inverters, motors, charging, thermal); maintain a living technology radar and proof-of-concept pipeline.
- Execute verification and validation at component and vehicle levels; ensure high-voltage safety, diagnostics, and regulatory readiness.
- Partner with the Safety team on hazard analysis and risk assessment and Automotive Safety Integrity Level allocation; support the safety case with complete verification/validation evidence.
- Communicate clearly with executives and partners; publish specifications and decision memos.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or similar (or equivalent experience).
- 5+ years in electric propulsion and/or high-voltage battery, battery management systems, and charging for road vehicles.
- Proven system architecture ownership and DFMEA/FMEA leadership, with delivery to Design Verification and Production Validation.
- Strong systems engineering, energy/power sizing calculations, and supplier leadership across software and hardware.
- Charging communications and protocols expertise, including at least Combined Charging System (CCS) Combo 2.
- Energy management strategy experience (derate strategy, charge-curve optimization, efficiency trade-offs across platforms).
- Thermal system design and integration experience (cooling circuits, heat pump, refrigerant systems) tied to propulsion and battery performance.
- Redundancy and fail-operational power architectures experience (for example: dual inverters, redundant battery strings, high-voltage contactor strategies, power-path redundancy).
- Excellent written and verbal communication; confident leading high-stakes technical reviews and supplier negotiations.
This is a full-time position based at our office. Of course, we have a modern and hybrid set-up that allows you to partly work from home but our expectations is that you also are present at our office in Gothenburg or Stockholm.
Please note that as part of our standard recruitment process, we conduct a background control on the final candidate for this role. This may include verification of education, employment history, any relevant professional certifications or other information that may be of our interest.
You will be part of a truly diverse, high performing team with a common passion for sustainability and making things happen in an innovative way. We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible since selection and interviews are held continually.
At Einride, we are innovators, building solutions the world has never seen before – but urgently needs. That’s why we take action, and it’s why we are always eager to be challenged. We know that our best innovations come from having a diverse mix of people, including those of different experiences, career paths, and walks of life. By coming together and sharing our perspectives openly – by disagreeing, discussing, and committing – we deliver greater impact.
