The lab and technologies

The Jakobsson lab at Karolinska Institutet investigates blood- and lymph vessel morphogenesis and function in development and disease, aiming to develop new therapeutic approaches. Through application of genetic mouse models of human disease in combination with forefront technologies including intravital 2-photon microscopy, fluorescence light-sheet microscopy, viral-mediated genetic manipulation and single-cell RNA sequencing, we create fundamental knowledge towards this goal. The environment in addition offers access to drug screening platforms, proteomics, ATAC-set, and spatial transcriptomics. The lab is integrated in a high-performing scientific milieu of MBB, with close clinical ties.

The project

The current project focuses on signalling dynamics that potentially defines specific endothelial cell behaviours underlying vascular pattering and malformation. The study includes aspects of fluid-shear forces, inflammation and ligand-mediated responses in human genetic disease and genetic mouse models thereof. The candidate

We seek a motivated, creative, and scientifically curious team player with a keen eye for biological intricacies. The candidate must hold, or soon obtain, a doctorate in molecular/developmental biology acquired within the last two years, outside of Sweden. Prior engagement and publication record in developmental and vascular biology, along with experience in confocal microscopy/intravital imaging, image analysis, in vivo experimentation, tissue culture, cell signalling, cloning, and bioinformatics, would be advantageous. Strong communication skills and proficiency in English, both spoken and written, are essential.

Entry requirements

Postdoctoral scholarships may be established for foreign researchers who pursue their merit in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) start date of the post doctoral education.

The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish doctorate or higher.

Type of scholarship

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.

Department and location

You will join Dr Lars Jakobsson’s group within the Division of Vascular Biology at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, comprising an outstanding research environment. The group is located in Biomedicum, -a research centre in central Stockholm, providing an exceptional environment for research and education.
