The activities at the Department of Learning, Informatics, Management and Ethics (LIME) include education and research in system, leadership, and management issues in healthcare, lifelong learning for healthcare professionals, ethical and policy issues related to healthcare and research, healthcare information systems, social innovation, and suicide prevention. We conduct research and education in health economics with a focus on health economic evaluation, which is used to investigate how society's resources should be utilized to achieve an efficient allocation of resources to improve health. We now want to strengthen our health economic competence in education and research. The person we are looking for should demonstrate pedagogical skills.
Your mission
Description of duties and areas of responsibility
Your position will be placed in the research group 'Health Economics and Policy' at the LIME department and will involve work with education, teaching, research, and collaboration with the surrounding community in the field of health economics.
The employment as Assistant Professor is time limited for 6 years with the right to apply for promotion to Senior Lecturer.
Your tasks will include:
- Course responsibility for health economics courses in the Master's program in health economics, policy, and management (HEPM)
- Coordinating the health economics courses with other courses in HEPM, such as statistics, health measures and valuation of health, and the thesis course
- Participation in research projects within health economic evaluation of cancer drugs and precision medicine
- Leading, conducting, and participating in research projects together with the research teams 'Health Economics and Economic Evaluation' and 'Health Economics and Policy'
- Writing research applications, articles, and analyzing data
You meet the following requirements:
- PhD in health economics
- Experience in research and teaching at university/college level in health economics
- Experience in teaching at the master's program level and supervising students in connection with master's theses
- Competence in quantitative research methodology and published scientific articles in health economics
- Possess good social skills and can work independently and collaborate in a group
Eligibility requirements
Those eligible for employment as an Assistant Professor are individuals who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence. Preference should be given to those who were awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence no more than seven years, normally, prior to the expiry of the application period for the position as assistant professor.
Those who have been awarded a PhD or attained equivalent research competence earlier may however be considered if special grounds exist.
Special grounds refer to:
- parental leave,
- positions of trust in trade union organizations
- mandatory service in the total defense forces
- long-term illness
Ground, dates and extent must be clearly specified in the application and verified with relevant documentation.
Appointment to the position of Assistant Professor requires good scientific skills and good pedagogical skills. (See the instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet).
It is a requirement that you have completed three weeks of courses on teaching in higher education as indicated in the recommendations of the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institution. If you lack such education at the time of employment, you must undergo such education during the first two years of employment.

It is particularly meritorious that you have demonstrated
- Documented managerial experience beneficial for the role of course leader
- Extensive experience in leading and participating in health economic evaluations in a national and international context
- Significant experience in collaboration with the surrounding community in health economics
- Good communication skills and participation in conferences and seminars in health economics

Particular assessment for promotion to Senior Lecturer
An Assistant Professor employed in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance Chapter 4 Section 12a shall be promoted to Senior Lecturer if he or she is eligible for an employment as Senior Lecturer in accordance with the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet and is assessed to be suitable for such employment in accordance with the assessment criteria that KI has decided should be applied when being promoted to Senior Lecturer. The assessment criteria stated in the Instructions regarding the Appointment Procedure for Teachers at Karolinska Institutet that was valid at the time of appointment as Assistant Professor will be applied when applying for promotion to Senior Lecturer. Current assessment criteria is found here. Such promotion results in a permanent position as Senior Lecturer.
