Our Exciting Opportunity

In Ericsson Research we are inventing new technologies to bring automation and intelligence in large complex telecom systems through machine learning and other artificial intelligence techniques. We are looking for a talented student to work with us on state-of-the-art reinforcement learning algorithms.

In this project, you will look at the problem of controlling antennas in a network by augmenting existing expert policies using reinforcement learning. These expert policies are often rule-based methods which become suboptimal when applied to increasingly complex networks. Instead, we could replace them by reinforcement learning algorithms but those often require a vast amount of data. To address these challenges, you will study techniques that uses expert policies to make the training of reinforcement learning agents more efficient. Specifically, you will develop and evaluate state-of-the art algorithms that combine reinforcement learning with expert policies based for example on residual learning, active learning and reinforcement learning from demonstration.

The work will be relying on an in-house network simulator for experiment.

  • Master’s student with most courses completed and good grades
  • Strong programming skills (languages like python and Julia preferred)
  • Good knowledge of and interest in mathematics and statistics
  • Good knowledge in reinforcement learning and deep learning, experience with pytorch, tensorflow, openai gym or similar is encouraged.
  • Excellent communication and team working skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English, ability to work as part of an international team
  • Strong result orientation and thirst for knowledge
