Communications Manager

The Datacenter Community Development (DCCD) team at Microsoft is looking for an experienced Communication Manager who is passionate about creative storytelling and developing engaging, compelling, and relevant communications. This Redmond-based role will help manage both internal and external communications about Microsoft’s work in datacenter communities. The DCCD team is part of Microsoft’s datacenter organization – Cloud Operations + Innovation – supporting the growth and operations of Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure by partnering with the people and organizations in datacenter communities to drive social opportunity, economic growth, and environmental sustainability,

Responsibilities

The scope of work includes: content development including brochures, feature stories, presentations, and newsletters; ghost writing for senior leaders; building and managing editorial calendars; working with partner organizations to support their PR efforts; amplifying stories via social media channels; interpreting research data to help inform programs, investments, and strategies. The communications manager will have strong balance of communication and project management skills.

Qualifications

The Communications Manager will have the following qualifications:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills- English language.
  • Understanding of research principles and tactics along with modern communication strategies.
  • Strong team orientation: build and nurture partnerships, collaborate and influence across multiple stakeholders in- and outside of Microsoft.
  • Skilled at prioritization, creating order and marshalling resources towards achieving a common goal and a strong drive for results with energy and positive attitude.
  • Executive presence and ability to provide strategic and tactical guidance to leaders across the organization.
  • Able to provide clarity in complex situations, especially when facing tight timelines.
  • Undaunted in the face of constant ambiguity with ability to "see through the noise" and create clarity for key industry team stakeholders as it relates to communications and storytelling.
  • Understanding of Microsoft’s cloud strategy and portfolio.

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to, the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
