Postdoc in Molecular Biophysics
Are you interested in exploring the fundamental mechanisms shaping chromatin structure, with the support of competent and friendly colleagues in an international environment? Are you looking for an employer that invests in a sustainable workforce and offers safe, favorable working conditions? We welcome you to apply for a postdoctoral position at Uppsala University.
The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is organized into seven research programmes which all focus on different areas of cell and molecular biology: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Microbiology and Immunology, Molecular Biology, Molecular Biophysics, Molecular Evolution, Molecular Systems Biology and Structural Biology. The scientific basis of what we do lies in biology, but our research overlaps with other areas such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering sciences and physics. In total, we are over 200 staff and ~60 Ph.D. students. Please read more about the department’s work at https://icm.uu.se.
The Deindl lab offers a stimulating multidisciplinary environment where you will work closely with experts in biophysics, biochemistry, structural and molecular biology. Our overall mission is to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying genome-interacting processes using a highly multidisciplinary approach that combines advanced single-molecule fluorescence imaging with a range of biophysical, structural, and biochemical techniques. For more information about the research in the Deindl laboratory, please visit http://www.deindl-lab.com/.
Duties
In connection with an ERC Advanced Grant, the researcher will explore the fundamental mechanisms shaping chromatin structure. The project offers a unique opportunity to develop innovative assays aimed at resolving longstanding mysteries in transcriptional regulation and cell division. The successful candidate will employ advanced fluorescence microscopy on eukaryotic cells, alongside a diverse toolkit of genetic engineering and in vitro biochemical approaches, to push the boundaries of our understanding in this field.
Requirements
We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a PhD degree in physics, biophysics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
The candidate is expected to be able to work independently and good proficiency in English is essential, as the position is based in an international research environment. We value personal qualities such as strong collaborative skills, self-motivation, and a genuine interest in basic research, particularly in addressing fundamental biological questions through quantitative approaches.
Additional qualifications
Prior experience and a strong interest in fluorescence microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, and related techniques are highly valued. In addition, previous experience with eukaryotic cell culture will be considered an advantage.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of two years with the possibility to extend to three years according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 7. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date as soon as possible or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
